News Report

Explosion in an cheesecake factory!

Yesterday on 12th of July, 2013 there was an explosion in a cheesecake factory. It was 7 o’clock when the factory collapsed. It was devastated and full of debris.

Reporters say that the cause of this horrible tragedy was the cause of terrorist. The owner of this company is Roger Willis, which has recently been in another terrorist attack. Behind this disasters is Muhad Yin which is still to be find by the U.S government.

There were to be 100 people either injured or lifeless. Families all around Kansas were left heartbroken and shocked. About 40 percent of the staff members. On the 12th of November there will be a memorial for all of those who have lost their lives in this tragic accident.

Roger Willis is now spending millions to catch Muhad Yin, but there is no trace of him since 2011. He also decided to shut down all his factories until they get checked to be clear.

Essay

Lenny Ambrosini asked us to write an essay about how the League was partly successful in the 1920s

In my opinion the League of Nations was partly successful and partly a failure. There were also some cases that weakend the League’s morals.

Firstly, the League was partly successful with the conflicts of Upper Silesia and Aaland Island. In the case of Upper Silesia, both Germany and Poland wanted control over it because of its rich iron and steel industry. So a plebiscite was organized for Silesians to vote on which country they wished to join. The industrial areas voted for Germany, the rural areas for Poland. The league, therefore, divided the region along those lines. Both counties accepted the decision. Another case where the League helped resolve conflicts was with the Aaland Islands. Both Sweden and Finland wanted control over them, so they were both threatening to fight for them. After investigating, the League decided that the islands should go to Finland. Sweden accepted the League’s ruling and war was avoided.

Secondly, the League was partly a failure not successful with the conflicts of Vilna and Geneva Protocol. In the case of Vilna, it was the capital of Lithuania but it was mostly inhabited by Polish people (since Poland and Lithuania were both new born countries).  Poland took control over Vilna and concerned, Lithuania asked the League for help. France did not want to get involved because Poland could be a future German ally and Britain did not want to act alone. In the Geneva Protocol, France and Britain wrote a protocol which said that if a member ever had a conflict that they would be the one to solve it. Britain had elections and a new government was chosen, therefore the protocol was never signed. This were two failures because the League did absolutely nothing to help.

Thirdly, although the League had successes and failures one of the main reasons why it did not last much is because it had some favoritism towards bigger states. For example in the case of Corfu and Bulgaria. Corfu and Albania were supervised by an Italian leader. After Mussolini found out he was assassinated he blamed Greece without any proof or testimonies. In return, Mussolini wanted Greece to pay re-compensation. They denied his accusations, so Mussolini bombarded Corfu and took over it. At this point, Greece asked the League for help; They said that Italy should have moral condemnation but that they should still pay re-compensation. Later on, Mussolini went behind the League’s back and made a deal with Greece. The deal that they could get Corfu back if they paid the re-compensation. 2 years later, Greek troops invaded Bulgaria after an incident on the border and they asked for help. Therefore the League ordered Greece to pull out and pay compensation. Although the Greeks obeyed, they complained that there was one rule for the large states and another for the small ones. In this two conflicts you can see that Italy (a large state) and Greece (a small state) were treated in different ways. This weakened the League because one of their morals was to be equal and bring justice, peace in Europe.

In conclusion, the league was partly successful and partly a failure. It did not last long because it didn’t respect and follow their own morals.

Transactional Letter

Our writing and oral teacher, Pilar Pando, gave us a task in which we had to write a transactional letter.

Dear sir,
I am writing to inform you that I was very disappointed with my visit Burger King two days ago. I saw a picture in one of your adverticements and the burgers looked delicious. So I decided to go there with my friends. Unfortunately, I have a couple of complaints concerning this visit.
Firstly, in your picture the burger looks tasty and satisfactory but what I got was very different. It was a really small burger and the flavours did not match, there were too many condiments for me to taste the meat. Also, for such a small portion, it was way too expensive.
Secondly, to make matters worse, the place was crowded and waiting for an ordered meal was intolerably long. I must admit that the place was very nice but the burger did not taste or look like the one on your adverticement.
I would like you to take my points under consideration and I expect a refund from your restaurant. I trust you will give this matter immediate attention. I look forward to receiving a reply from you.
Yours faithfully,
Lucia Roggero
